Court Restoration
Status:
Fully Repaired & Operational
Scope:
6 Indoor Panoramic Courts
Location:
Exeter, United Kingdom
The Challenge
Six indoor courts, turf only two years old, and players were already complaining. One court had visible bubbles across the surface. On another, the turf had lifted at the seams and moved underfoot.
The club was preparing to replace the turf outright.
We were asked to inspect it first.

Seams Never Properly Bonded
Across all six courts, the seams had been poorly bonded and had pulled apart. Several were filled with silicone instead of adhesive, which does not hold a joint under playing traffic.
Sand Trapped Beneath the Carpet
The bubbles were not a turf defect. Sand had worked its way under the carpet through open seams and compacted into ridges beneath the surface.

Diagnostic Findings
Our team audited all six courts and found three separate faults.

Bounce Loss Along the Joints
Sand and debris sitting in the open seams killed the ball response along the joint lines. Players felt it as dead spots rather than as a seam problem.

Maintenance Protocol Handover
We left the club a recommendation: when to top up sand, how to check the seams, and how often to run maintenance. Turf wear was assessed and flagged for replacement in twelve months.

Bubble Extraction
On the bubbled court, we opened the nearest seam, vacuumed out the compacted sand that had formed the ridges, then refitted and rebonded the joint. The surface came back flat without lifting or replacing any turf.

Seam Recut and Rebond
Every failed seam was cleared of sand and debris, cut back to clean edges, realigned and bonded again. Once the adhesive had cured, we topped the repaired lines with sand to add weight and bring the surface flush.
Technical Solutions

Replacement Deferred by a Year
The club had been costing a full turf replacement. The repair bought another twelve months of service from the existing surface.

Dead Spots Eliminated
Ball response is consistent along every repaired seam. The joint lines no longer read as dead spots underfoot.
The Outcome

All Six Courts Back in Play
All six courts returned to full playing condition, and the complaints that triggered the audit stopped.

Client Feedback
"The courts were slightly bobbling and lifting, so you've come and done a fantastic job doing repairs by removing the sand from underneath where there was ridges and gluing them back down."
